    1.If the electronically controlled fuel injection engine equipped with exhaust oxygen sensor fails in operation, such as unstable idle speed, weak acceleration, increased fuel consumption and excessive exhaust gas, and there is no other fault in the fuel supply and ignition device, it is very likely that there is something wrong with the oxygen sensor and related circuits.

     

    2.The electronic control system of most engines has self-checking function. When the oxygen sensor or related parts fail, the computer will automatically write down the fault content, and the maintenance personnel can find out the problem only by reading the fault code with a special decoder. But what if there is no special equipment? Here are several ways to quickly check the quality of the oxygen sensor.

     

    3.If it is suspected that the failure such as unstable idle speed or poor acceleration is caused by the oxygen sensor, just unplug the connector of the oxygen sensor when overhauling. If the engine failure disappears, it means that the oxygen sensor has been damaged and must be replaced. If the engine failure remains, find the reason from other places.

     

    4.Using high impedance voltmeter can also check the quality of oxygen sensor. Connect the voltmeter in parallel at the output end of the oxygen sensor. Under normal circumstances, the voltage should change between 0-1V, and the median value is about 500mV. If the output voltage remains unchanged for a long time, it indicates that the oxygen sensor has been damaged.

     

    5.In fact, the oxygen sensor is a very durable component, and it can be used for 3 years or more as long as the fuel quality passes the standard. The abnormal damage of oxygen sensor is mostly caused by excessive lead content in fuel. Drivers who drive cars equipped with three-way catalytic devices must pay attention to this.
